Make Your New Year’s Resolutions Stick with Acupuncture this Yearl

PHOENIX, AZ, January 10, 2010 – In the midst of one of the toughest economic crises in history, one Valley institute of higher learning is seeing an increase in students.

The Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine & Acupuncture (PIHMA) College now has the largest program to date. This is even more proof that many are looking for new careers in this touch economy.

“It is a difficult time to be looking for a job and we are excited to have people looking to a new career in the growing field of Oriental medicine,” said Catherine Niemiec, PIHMA’s president and founder. “The silver lining in the economic downturn lies in the fact that jobseekers are aware that they need additional schooling to land the types of jobs that will allow them to sustain the lifestyles even in a difficult economy.

Oriental Medicine continues to become a popular alternative to western medicine and the need for Licensed Acupuncturists (L.Ac.), who have the highest training in this medicine, will only grow. Studies show that visits to Licensed Acupuncturists in the United States have nearly tripled from 1997 to 2007, due in large part to the health care crisis. As the number of families who are forced to seek more effective alternative methods of health care and treatment increases, more job positions are opening in related fields of integrative medicine to help fill the needs of consumers.

“Our students go on to have successful careers as Licensed Acupuncturists, herbalists, and body workers,” Niemiec said. “Students can open their own practices right after graduation from the college, enticing many to enroll and take charge of their futures in this uncertain economic state.”
