WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST ACUPUNCTURE APPOINTMENT
Your first Acupuncture treatment is an exciting step to getting your health and wellness on track! Here is what to expect at your first appointment.
Our intern and supervisory acupuncturist team are highly trained in this medicine and dedicated to your healing and comfort.
Before Your Acupuncture Appointment
Make sure you drink water before your appointment time to ensure that your body has enough energy.
It is best to wear loose-fitting clothes so our Acupuncturists can easily reach your acupuncture points.
It is also best to show up 5-10 minutes before your appointment time to fill out your patient forms.
During Your Acupuncture Appointment
Your acupuncturist/intern will begin your appointment by asking a multitude of questions regarding your health. This will help them create a wellness plan specific to you! They will likely feel your pulse, check your tongue, and interview you about the state of your internal organs before designing your specific treatment.
Then, your acupuncturist/intern will begin needling. The needles are as thin as hair, designed to slide through the skin effortlessly. You may feel a slight pinch or a dull heaviness at the place of insertion where the energy is stagnant. Some people even report feeling the energy move along the body. After placing all of your needles, you relax for 15-30 minutes with the needles in place. Many patients even fall asleep. Finally, your needles will be removed, leaving you refreshed.
Depending on your treatment plan, your acupuncturist/intern may suggest other forms of Chinese Medicine including gua sha (scraping therapy), cupping, moxa (heat therapy), or nutrition and herbs to assist acupuncture in your health plan. These treatments are included with an acupuncture treatment at PIHMA. Ask your acupuncturist/intern if any additional treatments may be right for you.
