Why Choose PIHMA

If you are looking for a career as an acupuncturist or herbalist you should choose PIHMA for your studies! Some of the many reasons why are listed below.

PIHMA is known to have a diverse and inclusive culture. On a daily basis, our staff, faculty, and students model our nine core values: Serve Compassionately, Act with Integrity, Practice Gratitude, Be Innovative, Commit to Excellence, Cultivate Success, Respect the Individual, Grow Thoughtfully, and Build a Community. These principles guide our culture and help us create a family that honors and respects one another. We want everyone at PIHMA to feel as though they belong.

PIHMA is a leader in Asian and Integrative Medicine. We are known to set standards for innovation in education and research, as well as fight for a holistic approach to medicine.

PIHMA was founded over 25 years ago making it the first Acupuncture and Asian Medicine educational program in Arizona. For the past quarter-century, PIHMA has helped over 330 graduates find a fulfilling career as an Acupuncturist and Herbalist. Our goal is to transform our student’s lives and help our alumni succeed in their own practices.

PIHMA wants to ensure that its students receive the best possible education in Asian Medicine, and that starts with research. On-campus, we have the National Library of Traditional Medicine and the Foundation for PIHMA Research & Education. The Foundation has conducted multiple types of research including basic science, clinical trial, community science, homeopathic proving, and education.

PIHMA has a reputation for defending Asian Medicine on the front lines. We have lobbied for licensing legislation, high standards, and public safety.

PIHMA also has a reputation for its outstanding culture and core values. Many students have chosen PIHMA specifically for this reason.

PIHMA strives to provide flexible scheduling options that are centered around the working individual. We provide weekend and evening programs, and varied clinic shifts, that allow students to continue their current profession or maintain family obligations. Our advisors help our students create a schedule that works for them and allow for a good balance between school, work, and life.

PIHMA’s unique schedule allows me to continue my career while furthering my education and deepening my knowledge of Chinese medicine. It’s a perfect balance.” -Alumnus, Lauren Daem

Our Advisors and Staff care about YOU! PIHMA will do everything in its power to make our students happy and bring balance to their lives. Our advisors focus on building relationships with our students from before admissions to well after they graduate. PIHMA is a compassionate, creative, comforting place where one feels at home.

PIHMA’s advisors want to make the registration process as easy as possible and are there to guide you every step of the way.

We advise students every semester prior to the registration period for the next semester.  We advise them on every class that they are qualified to take, and which ones are critical for their progression in their degree, and if they want to take an extra class or two so the future semesters can be a lighter load, or they can finish early.” -Lisa Dunn, Advisor

You make this registration so easy for me, thank you!” S.S, current student

Thank you so much for everything, you have no idea how grateful I am for all of you.” T.A, current student

PIHMA is affordable and works with its students to navigate federal financial aid for those who qualify, or how to figure out the best payment plan. For more information about financial aid and tuition costs please visit the Financial Aid and Tuition page.

Our flexible scheduling allows students to take as many or as few classes to fit their schedule and budget.

We are proud to announce that PIHMA has earned a 0% default rate on its student loans, which means our students have been able to pay back their loans on time. This means that our students are finding successful careers post-graduation.

PIHMA prepares all its students for a successful and fulfilling career in Acupuncture. There are thousands of practicing acupuncturists in the United States, many of whom operate their own practices. In recent years, Asian medicine has become more accepted by the general public, creating even more job opportunities. Also, with healthcare costs drastically on the rise, people are looking for a natural and more affordable option, creating a demand for holistic medicine and a positive career outlook for Acupuncturists.

Private practices, hospital and clinic opportunities, spa and wellness, franchising, teaching, and educational administration are all fields that are open to a graduate or licensed Acupuncturist.

According to Zip Recruiter, Acupuncturists can earn an average of $70,000 up to $130,000 a year depending on style and type of practice, hours worked, and location.

PIHMA is located in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona. We are known for having over 300 days of sunshine and an average temperature of 85 degrees! Arizona has numerous hiking and golfing options, for those who like to get outside and enjoy the weather. Near campus are dozens of restaurants ranging from healthy, ethnic options to fast food.

Our campus is flowing with beautiful trees and waterfalls- a true Zen setting. The natural setting lends itself to our message of peace and harmony.

PIHMA has over 45 highly-trained faculty to help educate and inspire our students. Our Professors come from all over the world and truly believe in the medicine they are teaching. Our faculty mentor our students in class and through their clinical training.

Most Americans suffer from chronic disease, pain, and aging, which is not often successfully addressed by conventional medicine. Also, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 500,000 or more people die each year from drug use, 70% of which are due to opioids. Asian and Integrative medicine has been shown effective in treating a multitude of conditions like these and have helped people stay healthy.

A career in Asian Medicine gives people a way to help others in a natural, and healthy way.  Our Alumni are saving lives without having to prescribe drugs that can be highly addictive and often come with harmful side effects.

With PIHMA, you can have a successful AND fulfilling career, knowing that you are naturally saving lives.

We are proud to announce that PIHMA has earned a 0% default rate on its student loans, which means our students have been able to pay back their loans on time. This means that our students are finding successful careers post-graduation.

Asian Medicine, Acupuncture, and other Integrative Medicines which are taught at PIHMA’s Center for Professional Education & Development (Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Biomedicine, etc.) are all based on the energy of life. Health is dependent upon the energy that flows through the body, mind, spirit, and environment. By acknowledging these dimensions in our training and how we deal with others, we are continually amazed at what we can accomplish.

I pride myself on treating whatever condition or complaint my patients present with. There is a truly magical and amazing emotional pay-off when a patient relates changes in their life and mindset! I truly never imagined I could be so fulfilled and grateful while in service to mankind!!” – Alumnus, Robert Wood
